Hi ,
I think Maths is a good option for prelims because the questions are pretty straight forward and test the basic understanding of the candidate. If you are confident that your basic understanding of different areas, mainly, calculus, real analysis and algebra are clear maths will be a very good option.

Mechanical Engineering as well as Anthropology are not a good choice of IAS exam because of very legthy syllbaus and less scoring subjects.
