i am 3rd year student of electrical engg. in iit kharagpur. i am intrested in civil services but am very much confused about selection of subject in main paper. since math is my favourite subject so i want to take it as a one paper but what should i take as a second paper? is electrical is right for this?

the trend in the mains exams has become more generalistic .

I’ve done my civil engineering and from B.E College Shibpur . I have choosen my first optional as geography But I m confused about the subject to be taken as the second optional. I saw the Civil engg syllabus for MAin exam. It is really a huge syllabus for me as i am totally detached from the civil engg for the last 3 yrs. Please suggest me wat subject would be easier for me? Should I take Public Administration as second optional as it seems to be a scoring subject in IAS exam. But it is totally unknown topic for me. Please suggest wat to do? Could u please tell me the best books or coaching material for civil engineering. and also i need civil engineering papers of past few years. can you please provide me the same?

Hi Varun,
The Choice of your optional Pub ad and Psychology seems to be perfect and shows your awareness about the examination. You can definitely be an IAS officer. Since you are working in a MNC it requires for you to steal some time from either your work schedule or your leisure time. Plan your study in such a fashion that you can hit the core contents of the subject which is very important from examination point of view, this can be done by analysing the previous year papers. All the best.
